American alt rockers Foo Fighters are set to begin recording a new album in september. The news was confirmed by frontman Dave Grohl on BBC 6 Music earlier today. The album will be the seventh full length studio album from the band.
“Foo Fighters have just started writing and we’re going to start recording in September, so life is full of music,” Grohl told BBC 6 Music.
Dave Grohl seems to be man of the moment, with a second album from super group side-project Them Crooked Vultures also being recorded this year. The album by Them Crooked Vultures should be ready “by the end of summer” ,bassist John Paul Jones recently stated.
Foo Fighters emerged from the ashes of Nirvana, a vehicle for the songwriting talent of Dave Grohl. Initially a means for the drummer to work on his material, the band took on a hugely popular life of its own.
Scoring several hit albums across the globe, Foo Fighters went on hiatus in 2007. Since then, Dave Grohl has concentrated on a number of side projects, although the band did re-unite to promote a ‘Best Of’ last year.
Dave Grohl had travelled to Britain to present an award to Anvil, the Canadian rock band whose career was transformed into a touching documentary. Reminiscing, the drummer said: “I was touched by that movie so profoundly as a musician. I grew up in suburban Virginia, I’m a high school drop-out, I worked in a furniture warehouse, I played in a punk rock band. There were never any career aspirations.”
“The music I played wasn’t commercially viable I just did it because I loved doing it. I’d work all week and at the weekends I’d get to play and if I went on tour I’d quit my job and then I’d get home and beg for my job back. And you know what, I got really lucky.”
