Jack Mackrill.

Myself and Neil recently had time to check out the awesome Forever Never when they played at the Quake club, Woking, In support of Skindred on their latest tour. Check out our review for the show HERE

We were also fortunate enough to have a chat after the gig with Forever Never’s guitarist Jack Mackrill. Heres what he had to say:

Mike: So how did the gig go tonight for you?

Jack: Awesome – it was really cool, quite a small stage but I think we got the best out of it, putting on an energetic show. The crowd were fucking awesome, they really seemed to enjoy it. So yeah…Good show.

Neil: So what’s the most memorable moment of the tour so far for you?

Jack: In terms of shows, I’d say probably Stuttgart in Germany. It was the first time we’ve ever been there and the crowd were absolutely insane. But in terms of most memorable moment, it was probably in Scandinavia, Sweden, finland etc, where it dropped down to -25 / -30 degrees. All of the heating and water pipes on the bus froze, so no heating, fucking snow coming in the door – it was just really bloody cold.

Neil: So what’s the reception been towards you guys so far, are you currently signed to a label?

Jack: At the moment we’re currently unsigned. We just left the label we were on, but were gonna re-release later in the year. The reception from the crowd has been amazing. On this tour the only place we’ve done is Germany apart from the UK and every where seems to have taken to us really well, so we’re really proud of that.

Neil: So you released your self titled album during the first half of last year, whats been the reaction to it?

Jack: It’s gone down really well, all the magazines seem to be coming back positive, the singles had good reviews and lots of airplay. We were in the Kerrang top 10 and top 40 for a while. All of the fans seem to appreciate, that although its more commercial, it’s a stepforward…not selling out as such.

Neil: So what’s next for you? New album?

Jack: In May we’re doing some UK dates with Fozzy, which is Chris Jericho’s band. Kind of writing a little bit – Renny’s started mixing a few ideas together. I think the aim is for a new album early next year hopefully, once we’ve finished doing a few bits n bobs.

Neil: What’s influenced you most as a band – What do you listen to, what do you feel comes across most in your music?

Jack: You know what, I think all five of us listen to absolutely anything and everything. Renny vocally likes Seal, Michael Jackson, everything with really awesome vocals. Musically, there’s all the stuff like Meshugga, Sevendust, but in terms of what influences us – we just love everything. We’ll go in the van and listen to Drum n bass, Jazz, Dub Step, Blues, we take inspiration from everything.

Neil: So will you be getting any exposure at summer festivals this year?

Jack: We’re hoping to be on a few Somewhere around Europe at some point, but we don’t know which ones yet, but Fingers crossed!. If not we’ll be around drinking at one of them i’m sure.

Neil: So what’s your favourite band at the moment. What are you listening to / what’s on your iPod?

Jack: On my ipod…i’m currently listening to N-Dubz funnily enough!, but overall – Metal, Rock, Pop, everything.

Neil: So a few quick fire questions for you now, starting with… your favourite venue?

Jack: The astoria…when it was still there

Neil: Most memorable show?

Jack: Download 2009

Neil: Biggest show you’ve played?

Jack: Biggest outdoor was Download, Biggest indoor was the Manchester Apollo.

Neil: Unluckiest band member?

Jack: Sam our drummer, only because we rip the piss out of him constantly I’d say. But in terms of actual unluckiest – probably me as my equipment breaks constantly.

Neil: Craziest band member?

Jack: Sam again as he can backflip and kick himself in the head.

Neil: Biggest show off in the band?

Jack: Renny or me, but probably Renny.

Neil: One final question we like to ask everyone, whats your most memorable moment of being in the band?

Jack: Again download 2009, but probably that I’d been in the band for about 5 months when we got confirmed on the Stone Sour tour – which was Birmingham Academy, Astoria, Manchester Apollo, Glasgow Academy. I was only 18 and remember getting the email and reading that we got it. I’d only ever played one show in London before and my second show was going to be the Astoria, and I literally ran around the house screaming.

Neil: Well that’s pretty much it from us!, thanks for taking the time out to chat with us.
