Continuing on from the choices Chris made, Jamie has also picked his top 5 bands to see at Download, along with a few honourable mentions and even a couple of small festival tips! Check it out below:
1)Megadeth
If there’s one band you have to see at Download 2010, it’s Megadeth. Known the world over for their amazing live performances, on their last visit to the UK they managed to do the unthinkable by overshadowing the mighty Judas Priest on the Priest Feast Tour in 2009. Now Dave Mustaine has reunited with original bassist David Ellefson, odds are that the moshpits of Donington Park will be subjected to an hour long Holy War.
2) AC/DC
The world’s biggest hard rock band return to the scene of so many of their finest moments, if that isn’t enough to get you interested then I don’t know what will. Lots of speculation as to whether they will play their classic album Back in Black in its entirety, anyone with a brain inside Donington Park wouldn’t be caught dead missing this performance.
3) Rage Against The Machine
Come to the Download Festival 2010 on Saturday night to hear the 2009 Christmas Number One Single. I don’t think any of us a few months ago would have thought that possible, but thanks to the power of the Internet Simon Cowell was defeated and Rage Against The Machine come to Donington to celebrate a few days after their self styled victory party “The Rage Factor”. A band who have been long awaited by the devotees of Download year after year, this promises to be one of the most epic, brutal sets of recent years.
4) Aerosmith
A few months ago everyone thought the Boston rockers were finished with Steve Tyler in rehab and all manner of rumours and reports of rifts in the band. But Tyler has sobered up and everyone is friends again and with it comes the closing spot of the Download Festival. This could arguably be Aerosmith’s last visit to the UK so for Walk This Way, Dream On and all the other classics, make sure you’re at the main stage come Sunday night.
5) Five Finger Death Punch
The only (relative) newcomers of my top 5, 5FDP have proven in their short time together to be a fantastic live band with some crunching metal songs. Vocalist Ivan Moody has a fantastic range and guitarist Zolthan Bathory shreds with the best of them. Having blazed a trail through the UK at last year’s Download, their tour with Shadows Fall and this year’s Hammerfest, 5FDP return to kick our asses once again. You’d be a fool to miss it.
Honourable Mentions: Lamb of God, A Day To Remember, 36 Crazyfists, Killswitch Engage, Bullet For My Valentine, Motorhead, Saxon, Breed 77
Hints and tips:
If you bring any food to BBQ, eat it in the first 2 days. After that, you’re pretty much guaranteed to give yourself food poisoning, even if the weather isn’t overly warm.
Don’t do anything you do not feel comfortable doing, especially if you choose to experiment be it with booze, sex or more questionable things, don’t be peer pressured into anything, it’s not worth it.
Don’t rock out with your cock out, unless that’s your thing.
See you all down the front for Megadeth come glorious sun or mudbath!!
