We will do this again my friends, I swear to fuckin’ god”. Words spoken by Corey Taylor at the conclusion of Slipknot’s mind blowing headline set at the 2009 edition Download Festival. Slipknot delivered one of the all time great metal festival headline performances that night, a show which is one of the greatest in the bands history and also in the ten year history of Download itself. Well, guess what? They’re coming back to do it again.

After the rumours earlier this week, caused by what now seems a freudian slip on the Vodafone Facebook page, that Pearl Jam were joining Iron Maiden and Rammstein at the top of the Donington bill for 2013, Andy Copping and the Download powers that be have moved very quickly to crush those rumours by unveiling Iowa’s most popular musical export as the third and final headliner for Download 2013.

Anyone who was present at Download 2009 or the very emotional set the band performed at Knebworth last year will know what a fantastic experience a Slipknot festival headlining set can be. Though they sadly only number eight rather than nine these days, their show has lost none of its intensity, and a return to Donington will surely bring out the very best in the members of Slipknot.

So there you have it, earlier than ever all three Download headliners are confirmed. If they were worried about the re-emergence of Sonisphere for 2013 Download have done their very best to put down the competition and very early too.

Download 2013 takes place at the slightly later date of 14th – 16th June 2013. Tickets go on general sale tomorrow morning (Friday September 28th) at 9am through the official Download Festival website and all the usual ticketing websites (Ticketmaster, Stargreen, Seetickets, Gigantic, etc). As always, for the latest updates on Download as well as the rest of the UK’s metal festivals, stay tuned to Rocksins.com.
