Dream Theater To Release New Self Titled Album In September

Dream Theater at High Voltage 2011

A piece of news that will be joyfully received amongst fans of the band worldwide as well as the wider metal community, September 2013 will see the release of a new Dream Theater album.

The band, who released previous album A Dramatic Turn Of Events two years, have unveiled the first details of the new album. The album will be a self titled release, simply called “Dream Theater”. The album will be the bands’ first ever self titled album and the precise release date is the 23rd of September (2013). Dream Theater’s legendary guitarist John Petrucci has handled the sound engineering and mixing for the album in collaboration with Richard Chycki, who is known for his work with Aerosmith and Rush to name just a couple. The album will be the band’s fourth full length release on their current label home Roadrunner Records.

“Dream Theater” will be the first album where the band’s “new” drummer Mike Mangini has been able to play a full part in the creative process, having joined the band part way through the writing and recording process for A Dramatic Turn Of Events. To get some idea of the vision for this new album, check out what John Petrucci has been saying about it:

“I see every new album as an opportunity to start over, to either build or improve upon a direction that has been evolving over time or to completely break new ground. This is the first self-titled album of our career and there is nothing I can think of that makes a statement of musical and creative identity stronger than that. We’ve fully explored all of the elements that make us unique, from the epic and intense to the atmospheric and cinematic. We’re incredibly excited about ‘DREAM THEATER’ and can’t wait for everyone to hear it.”

Dream Theater will be touring in support of their new self titled release, the details of which will be announced soon. The band have also posted a video on youtube as a sneak peak of what they’ve been doing in the studio, which can be seen below:
