Well, after a week’s worth of Download announcements, The team at Bloodstock Open Air 2014 have responded in some style with a new quartet of bands for BOA who will really bring the metal to Catton Hall in some style. First up are New Orleans sludge metal legends Crowbar. With Kirk Windstein recently stepping down from fellow Bloodstock attendees, headliners Down, to concentrate on Crowbar, Kirk and his bandmates are hard at work ensuring they’ll have a new album by the time they hit the stage at Bloodstock next Summer.
Crowbar’s main man Kirk Windstein is a fully paid up member of the Bloodstock Festival appreciation society, and cannot wait to return next year:
“CROWBAR can’t wait to bring our NOLA doom back to Bloodstock in 2014! It’s our 25th anniversary, so expect a few surprises in our set. New record, new bassist and a whole new CROWBAR attitude!!! Get ready for the heavy!!!”
Currently hard at work on their first new album for almost five years, death metal veterans Obituary will also be appearing at BOA 2014. Having achieved more than 600% of their original funding target, Obituary’s new album will be coming out as a result of a wildly successful Kickstarter project. Like Crowbar, Obituary are Bloodstock alumni and are similarly looking forward to their return to BOA in 2014, and had this to say:
“We are very excited to be a part of Bloodstock 2014. It’s been 4 years since OBITUARY played the festival and we are looking forward to returning. We’ve been hard at work in the studio and can’t wait to bring our new album to UK fans and perform some new songs along with all the old classics. Bloodstock is the UK’s true metal fest, so we are honoured to be invited and to bring some Florida Death Metal to our British fans! Hang on to your ass, this is gonna be fun!!”
Another band who are very familiar with the surroundings of Catton Hall are Finnish riff lords Children Of Bodom, who are making BOA 2014 their only UK appearance of next year. Riding high on the back of one of the best albums of their career with Halo Of Blood, Alexi and co will once again descend upon Bloodstock to thrill the masses.
Lastly and flying the flag for the home grown acts, Bloodstock favourites from the Sophie Stage over the years Evil Scarecrow have also been added to 2014’s line up with the honour of appearing on the Ronnie James Dio main stage for the first time. The band are equally excited, thrilled and terrified about the prospect:
”We are astounded, a little scared, but beyond delighted to have been invited back to Bloodstock, especially as we are returning to the Main Stage which guarantees nobody suffers the discomfort of a full tent! Bloodstock is the biggest and best UK heavy metal festival and we’re truly honoured to be playing the same stage as so many bands who have influenced and inspired us. The line up this year already looks phenomenal. We promise to up the Scarecrow game to give Bloodstock’s faithful the best in Evil entertainment! Bring on the METAL!”
