On the swinging see-saw that is the “you have a go, we’ll have a go” of band announcements between Download and Sonisphere, this time around it’s the turn of Sonisphere Knebworth to add some more bands to their line up and they have done so in timely fashion with another ten bands joining their ranks for 2014.

In a line up announcement full of variety, the only place we can start is with Friday’s special guests who are none other than:

That’s right, Fred, Wes and the rest of Limp Bizkit will be providing main support to The Prodigy in what will surely be a Friday night that will be remembered long after the festival is finished. Continuing their tradition of appearing at every UK Sonisphere since it’s inception in 2009, Anthrax will be joining their “Big Four” colleagues in Metallica and Slayer once again on the fields of Knebworth. Their legendary guitarist Scott Ian explains their booking onto the festival line up this time around:

Phone rings…
Me: Hello.
My manager: Do you want to play the 40th anniversary of Knebworth; Sonisphere Festival with Iron Maiden?
Me: (filling my pants with poo) Yes!

“It’s one of those phone calls you only dream about. I’m so excited for Anthrax to be a part of the biggest and best Sonisphere ever! Can’t wait to destroy Knebworth again!”

Much loved across the UK, so much so he held the defining event of his career thus far at London’s Roundhouse venue in the shape of The Retinal Circus, Devin Townsend and The Devin Townsend Project will also be appearing at Knebworth this coming July. Let’s hear from the great man himself:

“Amidst a year of relentless writing and planning, we are fortunate enough to be invited to a select few shows, and among the most cool is undoubtedly Sonisphere UK! It’s an institution that is really exciting, among bands we absolutely love. We can’t wait to take a studio break and come entertain you there. Thank you Sonisphere for the opportunity! =)”

In traditional Sonisphere fashion where one or two acts come out of left field, in the manner of Bjorn Again and Richard Cheese amongst others, Sonisphere Knebworth 2014 welcomes Chas & Dave onto the roster. Having appeared alongside Led Zeppelin in 1979, two of the world’s most famous Tottenham supporters are returning to the Knebworth stage thirty five years on from those famous shows.

After making an appearance in the Bohemia tent which has now passed into Knebworth folklore in 2011, The Sisters Of Mercy will be returning to Sonisphere for a second appearance in 2014 (their only UK festival show this year). if those acts aren’t enough there’s also post-hardcore act Silverstein, Boston punks Dropkick Murphys, British metal group Voodoo Six, Macclesfield alt rockers The VirginMary’s and making their first EVER UK festival appearance, American death metal outfit Carnifex.

Early bird tickets are currently on sale for Sonisphere Knebworth 2014, with prices beginning at £170.
