It’s been the worst kept secret amongst large sections of the online music community for a few weeks now with even Sky News proclaiming them favourites to fill the slot last week but it has now FINALLY been confirmed that thrash legends Metallica will be descending on the Pyramid Stage at the end of June to be the third and final headliner for Glastonbury Festival 2014.
Metallica will be headlining the legendary Pyramid Stage on the Saturday night of the festival. They join Kasabian and Arcade Fire as the headliners of the event – bet they’ve not said that too often (if ever) at Metallica HQ previously! A huge amount of other acts have also been confirmed for Glasto across their dozen plus stages. Glastonbury 2014 is already sold out so anyone wanting to see Metallica in the UK this Summer should probably stick to their original plans and head to Sonisphere Knebworth, where the band will still be closing the final night of the festival with their By Request set. Visit www.sonisphere.co.uk or search this website for all your Sonisphere information needs. From the sounds of things Metallica’s Glastonbury set will NOT be a By Request show, as Lars Ulrich gave this comment to The Guardian:
“We figured that, since all the people had bought the tickets and it’s our first visit to the hallowed Glastonbury grounds, maybe we would be better off if I took charge [and wrote] what I considered to be the most suitable setlist,”
You can read more including quotes from festival organiser Michael Eavis about Metallica’s appearance at Worthy Farm over on The Guardian website here as they are the official media partner for Glastonbury.
