Over the last several days there have been a lot of worrying noises coming out of Australia about the future of the Soundwave Festival, Australia’s premiere touring music festival. A favourite with fans and bands alike, 2016’s edition was set to feature Disturbed, Bring Me The Horizon, The Prodigy and many more. However a couple of days ago on Twitter Bring Me The Horizon had announced they weren’t actually locked in for the festival, despite featuring heavily on the promotional material including the festival line up poster.
The festival’s promoter, AJ Maddah, had also said in the last couple of days that 2016’s installment of Soundwave was set to be the last edition of the festival, with it not taking place in 2017.
Now, AJ has taken to twitter in the last few hours to announce that Soundwave 2016 is cancelled due to poor ticket sales. But it has emerged through the Sydney Herald’s article this morning that many of the venues for the festival hadn’t even been confirmed as booked with just a month to go until Soundwave was going to take place.
It was also suggested that Maddah had tried to get Rage Against The Machine to re-form to headline the event in an attempt to boost ticket sales and the profile of the event, which was lacking the Mega-Metallica / Greenday esque headliner that it has had in recent previous years. But it now seems that the curtain is coming down on one of the world’s most loved multi-venue festivals. As of yet, there isn’t anything on the official festival website https://soundwavefestival.com/.
More news on this as and when we have it.
