Greg Lake, British prog rock hero and vocalist with both Emerson Lake & Palmer and King Crimson sadly passed away on Wednesday at the age of 69, it was confirmed yesterday. Lake had been fighting “a long and stubborn battle with cancer” in the words of his manager, Stuart Young, who posted the following brief statement on Facebook:
“Yesterday, December 7th, I lost my best friend to a long and stubborn battle with cancer.
“Greg Lake will stay in my heart forever, as he has always been.”
While many will mourn the loss of one of the UK’s prog greats, other people will know Greg Lake for his solo Christmas track I Believe in Father Christmas which as always is likely to see extensive airplay over the holidays, this year probably more than ever in light of the sad news.
Lake’s death leaves Carl Palmer as the only living remaining member of ELP, with Keith Emerson having committed suicide in the US at the beginning of 2016.
Rock Sins would like to join the rest of the rock and prog worlds in sending our condolences and best wishes to all of Greg’s family and friends.
