The Black Dahlia Murder are one of the premier death metal bands around today. They have built an incredible and somewhat enviable back catalogue over the last decade. Nightbringers is another high point in their growing legacy.
It’s refreshing to see a band getting heavier yet still retaining a sense of melody this far into their career. Every new album that they release is chock full of surprises to keep their fans on their toes as well as keeping their peers scratching their heads as to how they hell they can compete with them.
Nightbringers is a brutal and scarily precise album that shows not only imagination but just pure insanity in some of the best ways. Take for example, a song like ‘Widowmaker’ that was written about Tim Lambesis and his efforts to have his ex wife killed, and then the gruesome ‘Jars’ about the desire to store human flesh to feast on later in the album. There is some decidedly vile imagery tucked away on this album.
If ever there was a band who could go on to become the kings of the next generation of death metal bands then the throne is The Black Dahlia Murder’s to claim. This is another stone cold classic from a band who is only just beginning to scratch the surface of what they can do.
