Berkley’s Pop-punk collective, Mom Jeans have announced brand new album, Sweet Tooth, which arrives 25th February 2022. The album will hold a distinctive saccharine and self-deprecating theme; much like the first single What’s Up?
This bouncy track gives a perfect introduction to the quasi-conceptual masterpiece. It’ll give you a ride of angsty self discovery as well as those pop punk feels from your teenage years. Since 2016, Mom Jeans have been boasting a garage emo-punk sound and this new track shows a firm move away from that.
Three years on from Mom Jeans’ second LP, Puppy Love, recorded in New Jersey at The Barber Shop Studios with Producer Brett Romnes, it’s the first time the band have had a proper top-to-bottom studio experience and the result shows it.
On your first play you’ll be taken back to the best parts of Fall Out Boy’s Under The Cork Tree and Weezer’s iconic Blue Album. Every song will have at least one moment that just make you want to listen to the track over and over.
“Those hits by Blink-182 and Green Day, all those bands, it’s just hooks for days and really excellent songwriting,” says vocalist Eric Butler (he/they). “They really just tried to write incredible songs that would get stuck in people’s heads, so we wanted to try our own version of that. Ear candy is the goal, so Sweet Tooth is the record.”
Moving into the Golden Age of snotty pop-punk and cheeky radio rock, this 13-track album is set to be hugely addictive. Full to the brim with infections riffs and melodies with a bit of teen and young adult angst thrown in, your set for a treat come Feburary.
