Alternative rock legends Taking Back Sunday have teamed up with Photo Finish Records in celebration of their 15th anniversary. With this partnership, the band have shared their take on The Blue Album hit My Name Is Jonas by fellow icons Weezer.

The nostalgic hit works perfectly with Taking Back Sunday showing us their take on it. Sticking to the roots of the song, Adam Lazzara’s distinctive vocals power through to give a fresh twist. Although the band rarely do covers, bassist Shaun Cooper told Consequence:

“In 2019 we were on tour… a lot! Over time soundcheck got pretty laborious. One day before a show in Cincinnati, OH somebody started playing the opening chords to ‘My Name Is Jonas’… We all grew up listening to Weexer. Playing this song together was so much fun and broke up the monotony of day to day touring life. We started adding the song to our set list and recorded it on a day off in Buffallo NY. We love this song and we hope our rendition does it justice.”

Currently touring with Jimmy Eat World in the US, it’s not long before we get to hear Taking back Sunday smash up the stage here in the UK. In March 2022 the band will hit the road with Alkaline Trio.

Cooper said: “We have been very lucky to be able to play shows with Alkaline Trio Since 2001. We are always honoured to share a stage with a band that inspired us early on and continues to do so with every album they put out. We cannot wait to share stages throughout the United kingdom in 2022!”

Last in the UK for 2019’s Twenty tour, the return of US heroes is a hugely welcome one. Twenty catalogued the band’s impressive discography with two new releases, All Ready To Go and A Song For Dan. Giving us some clues on what new Taking back Sunday will sound like, but one thing that’s guaranteed is we wont be disappointed.

With seven albums behind them and an 8th on the way, there’s a track for everyone to get hooked on. From 2002’s Tell All Your Friends right through to 2016’s Tidal Wave, once you dive into one song you’re left in the rabbit hole wanting to listen to everything Taking back Sunday share. Celebrating 20 years of punky alternative rock, the forthcoming 8th album will be hugely exciting to see which direction the band take.

Catch Taking Back Sunday next March alongside Alkaline Trio with tickets available here.
