Spanish Love Songs recently announced upcoming new album, Brace Faces Etc. A deluxe edition filled with reimagined and alternative versions of their 2020 release. We’ve now had another tease of whats to come with the stunning new version of Kick.
Talking about the new album, singer Dylan Slocum shared
“A lot of this album came about from working at home, and listening to a ton of ambient, loop based music. This version takes that approach and applies it to a song that was always built around a huge hook. If the original song (and album really) was based on a wall of guitars, then this is meant to be the opposite, and is our attempting at making some big without it necessarily having to be loud or aggressive. We definitely weren’t confident enough to try that the first time around, which is probably the case for a lot of the different things we tried to achieve on the reimagined. “
This new version of the song feels completely different from the punky guitar drenched 2020 release, but at the same how feels like this was always the way the track should be heart. Re working and re imagining tracks is a bold and incredibly difficult task; even more when the songs are so known and loved with fans. Spanish Love Songs have beautifully pulled this change off.
With more gentle guitar and delicate piano notes, this soothing track is well worth the listen and giving re worked music a chance.
Having spent months reimagining and re-tracking an entire album almost from scratch and working from 3 studios in 3 time zones, the end result of this album is worth dedicating time to fully listen to it front to back.
“Brace Faces Etc” is filled with songs that hold the character of stories set in small-town America and anxious urban jungles. Diving into tales of addiction, depression, debt, and death there really is no stone left un turned with this album. Sharing their own experiences as well as those of friends, its a truly personal dive.
