“The boys are back in town, we’re gonna party down, ‘cos here comes Bowling For Soup”. An intro song known well across the UK for many years, heard one more time as Texas’ favourite pop punk quartet Bowling For Soup hit the stage at Slam Dunk for their first appearance since 2017. With a set shorter than they’re used to at 50 minutes, there’s a little less time for their well known banter (though it still happens – a square pit instead of a circle pit anyone?).
We’re treated to a run through all their biggest hits; From High School Never Ends to Almost and Ohio (Come Back To Texas) to Girl All The Bad Guys Want, they’re all there. Throw in the Phineas and Ferb theme song, a guy dressed as a banana dancing across the stage for My Wena and the inevitable closing 1985 and it’s everything you’d hope for and expect from Bowling For Soup at a festival. It goes down a storm with the huge assembled crowd. Singalongs and mini moshpits all over the place. If you enjoyed it – or if you missed out – catch them on tour with Less Than Jake across the UK in February 2024.
