Ahead of their upcoming album ‘No Joy’ landing 25th August, Spanish Love Songs have now shared their third single. This incredibly dreamy track shows off just why there is so much to love about the music the band create.
As figure heads for sad boy songs, new single Pendulum is no exception. With lyrics that hit you hard and get stuck in your head; combined with infectious riffs and fluttering synths, this is easily one of the best anthems of the summer.
‘No Joy’ will be with us just a short few weeks away on August 25th and explores finding peace in quieter moments and embracing the negative space. From the singles already released, this is set to be an album you’re going to want to block out time for and fully indulge in as a cathartic experience.
Talking on a deeper level about the lyrics of the song; vocalist and guitarist Dylan Slocum shared, “The song is a few different stories blended together that all dance around the fact that death is such a solitary act. The details of the stories are meant to feel vaguely familiar — someone on the verge of dying alone in a hospital; someone with dementia; countless friends who’ve decided to end it on their own terms. We’ve all lost someone. I think people generally don’t want to be left alone, or to die alone, yet that’s often all we’re left with. It’s all very terrifying, so a lot of the time I’m just trying to be present and enjoy what I’ve managed to scrape together. I wait for the pendulum of my worry to swing the other way, into some form of manic love.”
Previous album, ‘Brave Faces Everyone’ took us on a journey of mustering up the strength to barely break even in an increasingly bleak world. On the contrast, ‘No Joy’ gives us that look of finding the internal peace. As Slocum says, “it’s an album about finding happiness in what you have and your current moment. It might be your best moment, or it might not, but you have to find joy in it.”
If excitement for new singles and an album wasn’t enough, Spanish Love Songs will be heading out on tour in the UK/EU this Autumn. A match made in heaven, we’ll be able to catch Hot Mulligan and Spanish Love Songs all in one night!
