Scandinavian metal veterans Grand Magus have dropped a new single ahead of the release of their new album Sunraven next month. Releasing on the 18th of October through Nuclear Blast Records, Sunraven is the tenth album from the battle hardened metal trio. A concept album based around the theme of Beowulf, is an exciting new way for the band to express themselves while staying true to lyrical themes the band have always enjoyed exploring.

To get fans warmed up for Sunraven, Grand Magus have unveiled the interestingly named The Wheel Of Pain. Unsurprisingly, it is full of the trademark riffwork fans have come to know and love from the band. Check out the lyric video below:

JB, guitarist and frontman for the band, is on hand to tell us a bit more about the album’s concept:

The album is about Beowulf and Grendel. In essence, Sunraven is Beowulf, and that’s my own inventionBut some of the songs are written about and from the perspective of Beowulf, and some of the songs are written about and from the perspective of Grendel, the monster he faces in Denmark. That kind of steered me and carried me through the lyrical process this time. I’ve never done anything like this before. I’ve always been fascinated by that tale. These myths and legends are about all the basic things that we sing about – life, death, glory, dishonour, love, hate, overcoming difficulties, facing impossible opposition and so on.
