Murray and the boys are back and they’re back on form! The Xcerts have returned with an excellent new single titled Do It To Myself.
The video features The Xcerts – aka frontman / guitarist Murray McLeod, bassist Jordan Smith and drummer Tom Heron both performing and out and about, hanging out as friends. That fits in very well with the vibe of the song, which is much more like “classic Xcerts” of There Is Only You / Hold On To Your Heart than some of their most recent efforts. Continuing the overriding theme of a band who have fully reconnected, Do It To Myself was written with all the members of the band in the same room together at the same time, which they hadn’t done on previous album Learning How to Live and Let Go. The results seem all the better for it!

To hear more about the song, we will turn our readers over to Murray:
There’s a desperate urgency about this song, It’s an admission of my fragility and tendency to self-sabotage when things aren’t good as they are. It’s a hard indie rock song, but the lyrics and vocal delivery are really vulnerable. That conflicting feeling was intentional – we wanted it to feel uncomfortable, honest, and human.
More new music has been promised from The Xcerts as we head into 2026. On this evidence, we can’t wait to hear what one of Scotland’s finest rock bands will have up their sleeve. Follow The Xcerts on Instagram in the meantime, and keep checking back with Rock Sins!
