It has been reported today that long time Motorhead guitarist, Phil Campbell has passed away aged 64. The tragic announcement, made by Phil Campbell and the Bastard Sons via social media, comes just a few short days after the band pulled out of this summers Takedown Festival. Vacating their headline slot, citing an ongoing medical condition as the reason behind their decision.

Hailing from Pontypridd in Wales. The veteran axeman is said to have passed away late last night. Following what has been described by his family as a “long and courageous battle in intensive care following a complex major operation”.

Best known for his tenure in rock and roll icons, Motorhead. Campbell was one of the bands longest serving members. Playing with the group from 1984, right up until Lemmys death in 2015. With his tasty licks providing the backbone for hits like Doctor Rock, Orgasmatron, Eat The Rich, Going To Brazil, R.A.M.O.N.E.S, Hellraiser, Born to Raise Hell, No Remorse and many, many more.

When Motorhead disbanded following Lemmys passing. He then went on to form Phil Campbell and the Bastard Sons with his children Todd, Dane and Tyla Campbell. With whom he released numerous EP’s and studio albums. As well as touring extensively over his remaining ten years.

Ever the prankster, Phil is remembered by his wife and family as a “devoted husband, a wonderful father, and a proud and loving grandfather, known affectionately as ‘Bampi'”. For the rest of us, his music, sense of humour and legacy of keeping rock and roll alive will never be forgotten.

Our thoughts and heartfelt condolences go out to his family and former bandmates during this difficult time.

RIP Phil Campbell 1961-2026
