Metallica Release Full HD Video Performance Of “Freeze Em All” Antarctica Concert

Metallica 2013 Band Photo

Metallica have always been a band who like to push and break boundaries, and 2013 was no different for them. In addition to releasing their 3D feature film Through The Never, this year saw Metallica become the first band to play all seven continents of the world within a single calendar year. To achieve this feat, they became the first metal band to play a show in Antarctica. The gig, organised in conjunction with Coke Zero, took place inside a dome on the heliport at the Carlini Argentine Research Base. The audience for the show consisted of the scientists from the base, the crew of the boat who took the band there and some very lucky competition winners. Rather than use speakers and traditional amplification, the music of Metallica was transmitted to the audience directly through headphones, making this a very unique show in more ways than one (Metallica silent disco concert anyone?).

As a Christmas treat, Metallica have released the full HD quality video of their performance in Antarctica through their YouTube channel, meaning it’s available for all to watch completely free. As a result, you can enjoy Metallica: “Freeze ‘Em All, Live In Antarctica”, right here, right now:

Metallica’s full set list from the Freeze ‘Em All show in Antarctica was as follows:

Creeping Death
For Whom The Bell Tolls
Sad But True
Bass Solo
Welcome Home (Sanitarium)
Master Of Puppets
One
Blackened
Kirk Solo
Nothing Else Matters
Enter Sandman
Seek & Destroy

As has been well publicised, Metallica will return to the UK in July 2014 to headline the final night of the returning Sonisphere Knebworth 2014 Festival. They will play a very special “by request” set, voted on by ticket holders of the festival. Other “by request” shows are taking place across Europe and South America throughout next year, please check Metallica.com for full details.
