With just over 6 weeks until the annual pilgrimage to the Hallowed Donington turf, the Download Festival 2023 team have two big bits of news; more bands, and the stage splits for this year’s festival!
New additions include pop punk favourites State Champs, recently reformed emo/post-hardcore favourites Casey and Canadian hardcore punks and longtime friends of Rock Sins, Cancer Bats! Everyone’s new favourite Punk rock cover band Punk Rock Factory graduate from playing the village last year to the Avalanche Stage in 2023. Maynard James Keenan brings Puscifier to Download for the first time. There’s prog from Haken and Brit rock from Hundred Reasons. More home grown talent in the shape of Static Dress and Kerrang Radio “The Deal” competition winners Rituals, and LA outfit Cherry Bombs. Last but not least we have Snayx and Aussie quartet Redhook rounding out the new additions.
The other big news is the long awaited stage splits – finding who is playing where at Download 2023. Things to notice straight away are Alter Bridge and Halestorm flanking Metallica on the main stage on Thursday while Five Finger Death Punch look to be headlining the Opus stage. Friday could bring some very difficult choices for many, if Bring Me The Horizon (Apex Stage), Evanescence (Opus Stage) and Ville Valo (Avalanche Stage) are all on at the same time.
Likewise on Saturday where unless all eyes are on Metallica for round two, they could have stiff competition from Placebo on the Opus Stage and Coheed & Cambria at the Avalanche Stage. Lastly, Hatebreed headlining the Dogtooth tent on a Sunday night, closing the festival potentially at the same time as Slipknot are on the main stage?! Don’t make us choose!!
