In addition to the news we brought you at the end of last week that Five Finger Death Punch have unfortunately had to pull out of Download’s tenth anniversary edition of the festival, during last week there were two sets of new band announcements that we thought we had better catch up on for those of our readers who might have missed them first time around.
The first announcement was headed by the news that Refused, who were formerly a Sonisphere UK exclusive festival appearance have now chosen Download to be their only UK festival appearance for 2012. On top of that, there’s a real mixture of homegrown talent and bands from abroad who joined the lineup. Heading the British contingent of new bands for Download 2012 were Kids In Glass Houses, who were joined by hard rockers Black Spiders, post hardcore collective Lower Than Atlantis, fearsome punks Gallows and potential future arena fillers Rival Sons to name a few. In addition to the aforementioned bands, the other bands joining the fun were power metallers Edguy, Canadians Kobra and The Lotus, Don Broco, Fearless Vampire Killers, Four Year Strong, Porter Robinson and T. Mills.
If that wasn’t enough, Download booker Andy Copping announced late one night via Twitter that another six bands had been added to Download 2012. Heading this half dozen bands were another capture from the former Sonisphere lineup in the shape of Jagermeister Music Tour headliners Skindred. Joining Benji and the other guys in Skindred will be The Union, classic thrashers Lawnmower Deth, No Americana, Six Hour Sundown and synth metallers Silent Descent.
All of the above mentioned bands join an already very impressive lineup for the tenth anniversary edition of the Download Festival which is being headlined by The Prodigy, Black Sabbath and Metallica performing their legendary Black Album in full. Tickets are available from the official Download website or from all the usual outlets.
