The Download Festival powers that be have spoken for the first time on the line up for 2020. *Drumroll Please* Your headliners for Donington next year are KISS, Iron Maiden and System Of A Down!
They will be joined on the Download Festival 2020 line up by another 9 bands in the first announcement. With their excellent new album The Nothing one of the best of their 25 year career, expectations will be high for KoRn’s return to Download, while Gojira will revel in their first UK festival appearance since showing Glastonbury 2019 exactly what heavy metal is all about. Also joining the Donington party are Deftones, The Offspring, Disturbed, Black Veil Brides, Of Mice and Men, Daughtry and Alestorm.
Friday night sees “The hottest band in the world”, KISS, returning to Download and Donington for the final time as part of their End Of The Road World Tour. As with the likes of Aerosmith and Black Sabbath in recent years, KISS are given the opportunity to headline Download on their farewell worldwide trek.
Saturday night sees the return of the Irons to headline Download for the fifth time, making Iron Maiden the band who have headlined Download Festival more than any others. Here’s the good word from Maiden’s resident captain, Bruce Dickinson:
“Next year we will play a number of countries and cities we have yet to visit on this incredible tour, so it is terrific to be able to accept the invitation to return to Download in 2020 and we will certainly go to town and add a few extra items to the show. This will be our seventh time headlining at Donington Park. It’s home turf and we all really enjoy playing this Festival, the vibe from the crowd is always fantastic.”
Possibly the most curious of the three headliners for 2020, System Of A Down return just three years after their last headline slot in 2017 which was met by a very mixed response to put it mildly. Depending on who you speak to – it was either absolutely brilliant, or somewhat less so. Lets hope that they close Download 2020 in the style we know that they are capable of!
Tickets for Download 2020 will go on sale this Wednesday (25th September) at 2pm. Stay tuned to Rock Sins over the coming weeks and months for almost another one hundred bands who will be added to the Download Festival line up in due course.
