Since the release of their 2018 EP Korekara no Menkata Cottelee no Hanashi wo Shiyou, Maximum the Hormone have been fairly quiet on the recording front. A hectic touring schedule which included a rare jaunt through Europe in 2022. As well as a handful of standalone releases and tracks specifically released for major anime series (including Netflix exclusive “Record of Ragnarok” and the hit show “Chainsaw Man”) has kept fans happy for the time being. However, now it appears that the genre-bending quartet are gearing up for something more in the near future with the release of latest single “Koi no America”.
Originally released on CD in July in a special event, the song was released without a title or lyrics, with fans asked to guess what the song is called ahead of its music video release on 5th August. That day has now passed and the music video released to YouTube over the weekend.
“Koi no America” is an homage to America through the perspective of the band, leading them to jump through many styles they consider to be quintessentially American. They jump through arena rock, synthpop, EDM and Americana while still injecting their distinctive nu metal/hardcore style. Limited quantities of the album were released through mail order but have already sold out.
