As they celebrate 20 years together as a band, Mayday Parade have announced Sad, the highly anticipated second installment in their emotionally charged, self-released album trilogy. The record is set to arrive on October 3, 2025.
The Tallahassee quintet featuring vocalist Derek Sanders, guitarists Alex Garcia and Brooks Betts, bassist Jeremy Lenzo, and drummer Jake Bundrick has been steadily building momentum in 2025. Their trilogy began earlier this year with Sweet, a high-energy and nostalgic return that captured the essence of early 2000s emo-pop. However with Sad, the band is turning inward, embracing a slower tempo and a more emotional tone.
The band has also offered their fans a first glimpse with the release of the lead single Under My Sweater alongside an official music video which can be seen below. This is what Sanders had to say about their new single.
“It’s difficult to sing about a sweater without invoking Weezer, but that’s part of what I love about this song. ‘Under My Sweater’ wears its inspirations on its sleeve and feels both a part of old-school nostalgic emo as well as something modern and a step forward for Mayday Parade.”
“Under My Sweater” signals a clear shift in mood. The track leans into atmospheric instrumentals and melancholic lyrics and lush vocal arrangements. A reflection of the band continuing to evolve, even two decades into their career.
While details about the third and final installment of the trilogy remain under wraps, fans can expect a continued exploration of emotional highs and lows. This trio of albums promises to echo the band’s journey and growth.
Mayday Parade are set to depart on a worldwide tour in September. You can catch them in Australia and the US before stopping off in the Philippines and Singapore. Fans can also see them in Europe and the UK from the 20th January 2026.
