A Preview of Takedown Festival 2014

Takedown Festival 2014 First Line Up Poster

It may be only February, but the UK festival season is already creeping up on us. One of the first (and arguably best) festivals of the year is the mighty Takedown Festival, which takes place at Southampton University on Saturday the 15th of March 2014. Launched in 2012 and now in its third year, Takedown may be one of the smaller festivals, but it always has a fantastic atmosphere. We went last year and literally partied till we puked, and we can’t bloody wait to do it all again this year (well, maybe not the puking but you get the idea). Takedown consistently secures fantastic acts to play, and after the phenomenal success of last year, the festival is back… and it’s bigger and better than ever.

So what’s it all about then? Well, Takedown has 5 (yes that’s right, 5) stages on site. The festival features a mix of some of the UK’s best loved young metal bands along with a couple of old school heroes thrown in to the mix. All of the stages are indoors, so you can feel smug and enjoy the party as it pisses down outside. Although its worth remembering that each stage has a limited capacity, so we would advise arriving early to guarantee you get to see your favourite band. Headlining this years’ event we have Funeral For A Friend, Chimaira, Heavens Basement, LostAlone and AshesToAngels. Just in case you’re not quite sure who to see, we have a few recommendations for you.

Funeral For A Friend will be making their first appearance on Takedown’s line up, and are likely to draw the event’s largest crowd yet. Getting the crowd pumped for Funeral For A Friend is Kids In Glass Houses, who are brilliant live and a fantastic band all round. A must see at Takedown 2014. If you fancy taking in some fresh blood head to the Totalrock Stage to see English heirs apparent to the metal throne Heaven’s Basement. After finally releasing their debut album Filthy Empire last year to fantastic reviews, this band will treat you to a stupidly exciting and energetic show.

With all the angst of My Chemical Romance and Aiden, self-professed death pop rockers Fearless Vampire Killers will give a theatrical performance on the main stage at Takedown. If you like pretty boy rock then give them a shot. Idiom are sure to go down well and will quickly have you chanting along with their lyrics before dive bombing in to a circle pit. Having already shared stages with the likes of DevilDriver, 36 Crazyfists, Skindred, Young Guns and Bring Me the Horizon, in addition to an impressive performance at Download 2013, we expect big things from this band. Last but not least for the main part of the day, NWOAHM veterans Chimaira are not one to be missed if you like your metal intense and hard hitting. With an impressive fifteen year back catalogue to draw on, massive circle pits can always be expected for the likes of “Nothing Remains” and “Power Trip”.

Following the final sets of the day, the festival will then host the official Uprawr aftershow, which features DJ sets from Mel Clarke, Tommy Conflict and Jon Mahon.

Tickets for Takedown Festival 2014 are priced at ONLY £30, or £34 if you want a pass to the Uprawr after party as well. Quite frankly, we consider that an enormous bargain, and think there’s no excuse for not snapping tickets up as quickly as possible!
