Three years since their last album, Totem. Brazillian tribal metal chiefs, Soulfly have returned from the studio with their latest effort, Chama. Set for release on October 24th, Chama once again calls upon the ancestral strength and inspiration of Max Cavalera’s homeland. Promising another relentlessly primal, groove laden addition to the bands already exhaustive catalogue.
Recorded in Mesa, Arizona at Platinum Underground Studio’s with long time engineer and family friend, John Aquillino behind the desk. Chama brings a modern day edge to the bands signature, almost elemental sound. Which you can sample a taste of right now. Thanks to the albums debut single, Storm the Gates, which landed earlier this week. Packed with all the same fire and rebellious fury that put Soulfly on the map back in 1997.
Frontman Max Cavalera had this to say about the bands latest album- “‘Chama’ is the Brazilian word for flame. It also means a ‘calling’. Respect to Alex Pereira for using Itsari on his UFC walkouts. Chama is inspired by the energy of this moment. This record is the sound of Soulfly’s fire! I cannot wait to play these songs live for the Tribe! Chama!”
Soulfly is still very much a family affair too. With the ex-Sepultura vocalists son, Zyon, reprising his role behind the drums. As well as taking his first steps into the world of production, claiming a place at the helm of the recording process of Chama- “With each Soulfly record I’ve played on, I can feel my evolution happening in real time. This record was no different as I got to handle a good amount of the production for the first time. Trying to take the band to places we have never been before was a blast and I look forward to more production work in the future!”
Coming to store shelves and all digital streaming platforms later this year on October 24th via Nuclear Blast. Chama is available to pre-order/pre-save now.
