For a band that’s spent the best part of three decades defying expectations, Biffy Clyro headlining Finsbury Park feels surprisingly overdue. They’ve conquered festivals, topped charts and quietly become one of Britain’s most dependable live acts, but tonight has the unmistakable air of a coronation.
With a stacked supporting bill and thousands of fans filling the park, there was a genuine sense that this was going to be a special occasion—and somehow it still exceeded expectations.
It’s a bill that feels carefully assembled rather than commercially calculated. The support acts Nothing But Thieves and Marmozets set the tone for a day celebrating alternative guitar music in all its forms, while the crowd shifts effortlessly between seasoned fans who’ve followed the band since Blackened Sky and younger faces who discovered them through the arena-sized hooks of Only Revolutions and Ellipsis. Few British rock bands bridge those worlds quite as naturally as Biffy.
From the moment the Biffy Clyro walk on stage, the atmosphere was electric. Opening with The Captain set the tone perfectly, immediately turning the huge crowd into one massive choir. The set itself avoids the obvious trap of becoming a greatest-hits playlist. Instead, it charts the band’s evolution from cult Scottish math-rock outsiders to festival-headlining heavyweights, weaving older fan favourites into the towering choruses that have become their trademark. Every era gets its moment, and crucially, nothing feels like nostalgia for nostalgia’s sake.
By the time the closing stretch arrives, Finsbury Park has become less a concert than a communal release. Fireworks explode overhead, strangers throw arms around each other, and every lyric is shouted back with the conviction of people who’ve grown up alongside these songs. It’s the kind of ending that could easily feel manufactured, yet Biffy earn every second of it.
