Bristol emo rockers downcast have returned with their first new music of 2026. It won’t be an easy listen for some, as this is by far the band’s most heartfelt emotional work to date. Their new single is called falling to pieces, and is incredibly personal for them, especially frontman Liam Edwards.

falling to pieces is written about Liam’s younger brother, who is sadly no longer with us. We will let Liam tell us all more about the track himself:

‘falling to pieces’ is about my little brother who passed away last September at the age of twenty-eight. He struggled with severe alcohol addiction for a long time, which eventually caused fatal medical complications. The song was written during a time of confusion, before we understood exactly what took him from us. All I knew was that nothing could change what had happened. The song captures the anger and frustration I carried while learning to accept this.

The track also features a guest appearance from Youth Fountain’s Tyler Zanon, who’s vocals combine with Liam’s throughout the song. Check out the lyric video for falling to pieces below:

There is a tour on the horizon as well as new music for downcast. They are heading out on a headline run of UK shows towards the end of August. Joining them will be Manchester pop punks Stay Safe, who will be supporting for four shows, and then taking over as headliners for the last two. The full list of dates can be found below:
