It seems that Andy Copping and The Powers That Be at Castle Donington & Live Nation HQ are just determined to continuously outdo themselves this year. Well, this most recent bit of news for Download 2013 is gonna go down in the history of Download as one of the most impressive announcements ever. Not content with an already very impressive lineup, they’ve gone and added another FOURTY NINE bands in one go!
Honestly, we’re not quite sure where to start with the new additions, so lets just dive right in. Taking it from the top, back on the main stage after the weather aborted their attempt to open the festival, Rise To Remain will be hoping to go one better than 2012 and actually get to perform! Watch them attempt to kick off the main stage on the Friday for the second year. Joining them on the main stage will be fellow Brit metallers Architects (Friday) and Sacred Mother Tongue (Sunday).
There are a number of first timers amongst the newly announced bands; Rock veterans Uriah Heep, with fourty years of rock n roll history behind them are making their Download debut this year, as are Newstead, the solo project of former Metallica bassist Jason. Europe are also back for another attempt at a “first appearance” after not making it to their slot last year, while The Algorithm will be showing us how dance metal is done across the channel in France. Joining Europe in the Scandanavian debutant group are doom metallers Katatonia and old school rockers Graveyard.
There’s also a huge increase in the British contingent, alongside those already mentioned. Bringing their unique brand of dubstep flavoured rock to the Pepsi Max Tent, Modestep will ensure some of the heaviest bass of the whole weekend. Fellow Londoners Hang The Bastard will ensure that heads are banging during their appearance, along with Readings latest metal export, the prog metal of Empress. Then you’ve also got Skin, Brutality Will Prevail, Blitz Kids, Crowns, Emperor Chung, Sonic Boom Six, States of Panic and their fellow Scots Bleed From Within, Verses, I Divide, Rat Attack, Mordecai, Asteroid Boys, Hill Valley High, Silent Screams, Cytota, Glamour Of The Kill, Heart Of A Coward, The First and The Broken, Uncle Acid & The Dead Beats and last but not least the mighty Bury Tomorrow!
From the international contingent alongside those seen above are the gypsy punk stylings of Gogol Bordello, Lit, Escape The Fate, Buckcherry, Nu metal guilty pleasure P.O.D and Viking metallers Turisas. Japan’s Dir En Grey are flying in from The Land of the Rising Sun, while Karnivool and Naked Flame are making the long trip from Australia. Our friends across the Atlantic in the US are also sending considerable heavy reinforcements in the shape of Nekrogoblikon, After The Burial, The Ghost Inside and Blacklist Royals, along with the stoner rock offerings of Red Fang. Last but not least, and despite the fact they self confirmed a couple of weeks ago, Papa Roach will be bringing their nu metal anthems back to Download in what promises to be one of the most popular sets of Friday afternoon.
This great collection of bands join the masses already announced plus headliners Slipknot, Iron Maiden and Rammstein for the 11th annual Download Festival from Donington Park in Derbyshire this coming June. Tickets are on sale now priced from £195 plus fees from the official festival website and all the usual online ticket sellers.
