Having seen Babymetal’s Karate crowned Video Of The Year from our 2016 video of the week winners, it’s time to start over again for 2017. Our first contest of the year has five new videos and it’s a real varied mix this time – everything from what could be described as a black metal Johnny Cash to what could be the next Japanese rock superstars of the future.
Where else could we start this week but with Me And That Man, the new project from the legend that is Behemoth’s Nergal. Teaming up with British/Polish musician John Porter, the new project has musical similarities to the likes of Johnny Cash (think his NIN Hurt cover) and Nick Cave, among others. My Church Is Black is the first single from their debut album Songs of Love & Death (releasing in late March). The video is NSFW and involves scantily clad ladies – so don’t say we didn’t warn you.
Young guitar virtuoso Aaron Keylock is set to release his new album Cut Against The Grain tomorrow (20th Jan 2017), and has released a video of himself doing what he does best in the studio to new track Spin The Bottle. He’s been hailed as a guitar hero for the next generation, but is he your choice for video of the week?
Esprit D’Air could be the next J-rock band to make the crossover into the rock and metal mainstream. With bands such as Babymetal, Crossfaith and One Ok Rock all doing very well for themselves in the UK over the last couple of years, the gauntlet has been laid down, but Kai and the rest of Esprit D’Air look to be up to the challenge, judging by the video for Rebirth.
New York post-hardcore merchants Primitive Weapons are quite a new band to our ears, but the fact they’re going to be accompanying The Dillinger Escape Plan on their last UK tour tells you a lot about them. They’re going to cause absolute carnage. Their latest single is Panopticon Blues, and is accompanied by a suitably dark video. Like what you hear? Then vote for them!
Finally this week, UK newcomers Youth Killed It are onboard with their video for Popstar. A hugely catchy slice of what can only be described as punk rock with rap vocals, Popstar is the first single from Youth Killed It’s debut album Modern Bollotics (due this May through the aptly named Rude Records). Check them out and see what you think!
The vote closes at 12pm midday UK time on the 26th of January 2017. Five videos, one winner, get voting!

How can a 1,000 view video (Popstar) get over 2000 votes??
the video is actually over a year old but was re-released through the label, if you want to know, the actual viewing figures for the old video was 50k +
