Well, we all knew that two of the biggest metal releases of the year came out this previous week in the shape of Bring Me The Horizon’s Sempiternal and Killswitch Engage’s Disarm The Descent. There was hope that both would do well in the UK album charts (as well as around the rest of the world) but the announcement of the charts this Sunday evening brought some great news for all of us as far as metal albums being purchased in the UK are concerned.
Bring Me The Horizon’s Sempiternal has obliterated almost all of the competition and clocked into the UK album chart at a very impressive Number three position, the highest charting metal album of the year so far in the UK. Sempiternal is Bring Me The Horizon’s first release for their new label RCA and both the band and the label must be absolutely delighted with the results.
Whilst not quite as impressive as Bring Me The Horizon’s result, Killswitch Engage and their label Roadrunner Records are likely to be just as pleased with the results of Killswitch’s brand new album Disarm The Descent placing very well inside the top 20 at number fifteen. The first album for the band with original singer Jesse Leach (and the first with Jesse in a decade) has been critically acclaimed by the fans and critics alike and this great chart position for the band is further vindication that they make the right choice with Jesse’s return.
So, it’s been a rather good week for metal. Let’s all continue this great work by buying as much metal as we can afford, rather than downloading it for free! Further coverage of all the big news stories in metal will continue to appear here on a daily basis.
