There are festival announcements at the moment almost on a daily basis. Between the news of Metallica and Iron Maiden teaming up at the relaunched Sonisphere Knebworth some smaller festivals may have had their announcements fall through the cracks slightly. One announcement that deserves everyone’s attention is the news that post metal pioneers Cult of Luna have announced they are to headline at the newly announced Beyond The Redshift Festival 2014. Not only that, but Cult of Luna are curating the festival, and already have some very special acts from the world of black metal, post metal and drone (just to mention a few sub-genres) on board with them. The band have had this to say about the formation of Beyond The Redshift:
“The cosmological redshift is caused by the expansion of space. The wavelength of light increases as it traverses the expanding universe. Unable to assume that we have a special place within this universe, the redshift suggests to us that everything is moving away from everything else?
We may not be able to go beyond the redshift, but we can certainly think beyond it. We are bringing together artists who expand within their space ?artists who create something special within this space.”
The first batch of artists announced for the festival is formidable to say the very least. UK post metal favourites Bossk are on board, as are black metal veterans Godseed. Belgian sludge metal act Amenra can also be found at Beyond The Redshift along with UK prog rockers Amplifier. Fellow Brits post-rock band Blueneck will also be at Beyond The Redshift, and the initial announcement is completed by Belgian ambient composer Dirk Serries.
Beyond The Redshift 2014 will take place on the 10th of May in London across three venues. The main one will be The Forum in Kentish Town, with the other venues being The Boston Music Room in Tufnell Park (just up the road from Kentish Town) and The Dome, also in Tufnell Park. Tickets for the event will cost £30 plus fees and approximately twenty more bands will be announced for the festival. Beyond The Redshift will begin at Midday on the 10th of May. Further updates will follow as and when we have more news.
